The Hurricane season is upon us again and your HOA Board & Cert Team is here to help.
Lake Fairways residents.
September and October are peak months for activity.
Manufactured homes are classified as Zone A
Evacuate First
To Do Before the Storm:
Prepare your home. Take in and put away yard decorations, solar lights, take down flags and flagpoles.
Contact Insurance agent and go over your policy if you have Insurance. Write down all your questions and concerns before calling the agent.
Take pictures of all your property inside and outside. Make sure you photograph any heirlooms, family photos, or personal property. Ask the agent about taking videos of your property.
Gather all important documents and put them in a secure area (ex: oven, dishwasher and freezer/refrigerator). Take documents you absolutely need with you on evacuation.
Register for a special needs shelter if you have a medical need. This needs to be done at the beginning of hurricane season (May/June).
When the Storm is coming:
Time to finish protecting your home. Check to make sure that anything that can fly is in a secure area.
Have your go-bag packed and ready to go. Pack 3-4 days’ worth of clothes.
Your important documents (passports, insurance papers, animal papers, etc.) that you are taking with you.
Make sure you have a minimum of 30 days of your medication. FYI when the Governor signs a declaration of emergency you can get 30 day refill even if it’s not refill time.
Have a full tank of gas, get extra cash from the bank (ATM machines may not be working after a storm).
Make hotel or alternate arrangements where you can go for safety.
Gather post hurricane supplies to have ready when you return home.
Let a neighbor know if you are staying and fill out a non-evacuating form (available in front of the clubhouse by the drop off box). Drop the form in the drop off box and use the Home/Ok sign.
If using a generator after the storm get it prepared and have fuel stored in a safe location. Set generators at least 20 ft. away from your house when you are running it.
Supplies you will need:
30 day supply of medications and copies of prescriptions.
Special dietary food you will need.
One gallon of water per person per day. (Drinking water) Put gallon jugs of water in the freezer to fill up space and have cool water after the storm. Take 1 cup out before freezing.
Put gel packs in freezer if you have meds that need to be kept cold after the storm.
Water for toilets, washing dishes, personal hygiene (if you have a tub fill it, otherwise fill jugs with tap water and store in 2nd bathroom shower).
Food: canned food, shelf-stable milk, precook your freezer food (before the storm) package and refreeze. Then you can eat out of the freezer rather than throwing out good food. Make sure you have a full propane tank for the grill so you can cook.
Make sure you have a can opener (non-electric), flashlights, batteries, and radio. If without power after the storm you can use yard solar lights in the house at night. Just remember to recharge them outside during the day.
If you have pets don’t forget food and water for them.
Going to a shelter:
If you choose to go to a shelter you will need to take:
Your own food, water, can opener, flashlight, games, folding chairs, medications, clothes, bedding, and personal grooming supplies. If you have pets you will need their papers, food, water, treats, crate, leash, and blanket for the floor. Make sure they are up to date with their shots as they may be refused in some shelters. And a Sense of humor!
Post Hurricane contact CERTS/HOA District Director and let them know that you are safe and home.
