The Lake Fairways Summer Fun group is back and fired up with excitement to bring you for your 2022 summer.
We met in April to plan the events to keep us all happy and relaxed. Many ideas were tossed around. After multiple votes the calendar will have 37 things to participate in. The great thing about our group is that you do the things you want, and don’t do those that are not of interest to you.
We are working very hard to keep our prices as low as possible. The core of the park is the year-round residents. Making a variety of things to do, at prices we can all afford, will prove another season of success for all. There will be some events that will include Pine Lakes residents. You must be a resident to participate in all Lake Fairways Summer Fun events.
There are two items not yet on our calendar as we do not have set dates for them. Salty Sam’s Pirate Cruise is back by popular demand. We are shooting for a May date. Let’s see what happens.
Also, not on our calendar yet is the Ice Cream social and Free Card Bingo. If all goes as planned, that should happen in August.
If ever you want to know what we are planning for you to enjoy, you can check the following:
1) Saturday Coffee. All upcoming events are discussed, and we try to answer any questions that may arise.
2) The Informer has as up to date information as is available at the time.
3) Summer Fun at Lake Fairways has a group page on Facebook. To join just request being a member.
Please make sure you tell us you cul de sac number so you can be approved as soon as possible.
4) Our information is on this community website.
Check out our calendar and come join the fun! See you there!

Yes, they are back. They are noisy. They are excited. They are causing chaos in our lakes. The gators are back…. And they are ready to race!
The Summer Fun Gator Races are back and ready to give us some well needed entertainment. They will be racing on the second and fourth Wednesdays of every month, at 6:30 p.m., from May through August. Summer Fun will show them off starting May 12thin the Main Hall of the clubhouse.
Come join us and make your guesses as to who will win. This is a simple way to get out of the house and just laugh. We do this for fun and to enjoy each other’s company. Bring your quarters and singles and see who the best guesser in the park is. Last year the oldest gator was the overall winner!
Save these dates: June 9,23; July 14,28; and August 11, 25
Sue Gielow, Summer Fun Chairman.
We can all relate to our forefathers now, after being locked up for over a year. But Summer Fun is here and fired up for you. We have already begun to come out of our shelters, safely of course. You have 3 ways to find out what we are up to: Lake Fairways website, Facebook: Summer Fun at Lake Fairways, the bulletin board in the clubhouse and Saturday Coffee.
June was the start of activity for 2021. When even the gators were restless, we began the Gator Races again. Those gators were more than ready to run! The guesses were high and plentiful, but the Trifecta is still waiting for a winner. Come join us and see how you guess. On June 11th we went on an adult only Pirate Cruise with Salty Sam’s Pirate Cruisers in Ft. Myers Beach. There was no sitting still on that ship. Between Wench Melody and Pick-Pocket Pete the pirate we all got off the ship, laughed out and mighty tired. The views were beautiful, and the music kept us moving. The next morning there was a Shirt sale after Saturday Coffee with part of the proceeds going to Summer Fun. Thank you all who made purchases. June 27thwas our first Let’s Get Dippy Party. Dips were provided by residents who paid $5.00 per entry to try to win the $100, $50, and $25 prizes. Winners will be announced in the next Informer. We had many dips to choose from and with everyone bringing their favorite items to dip. We all left full and satisfied.
July is our first celebrating of true FREEDOM. This year, more than ever, we can all enjoy life freely again. We are starting with a 3-day celebration on the weekend of the 4th of July. On July 2nd there is a Neil Zirconia Concert. Neil, the “faux diamond” is the best Neil Diamond impersonator we have ever heard. There are a few seats still available at $20 per person. This event is open to friends, family, and residents of other parks. Let’s enjoy a wonderful, exciting evening. You never know who you may see there! (Contact Sue Gielow for tickets. 321-720-5912.) July 3rd, we show off our own talents here in the community with our first Talent Contest. Admission is $3 per person. The talents are both serious and “just for fun” with competitors hoping to win the $100, $50 or $25 prizes. Let’s show off the interesting people we have in our wonderful community. Tickets are available that morning at Saturday Coffee. Finally, on July 4th we will have our traditional 4thof July Party. This party is open to Lake Fairways residents and their families only. (Significant others count as family.) The main dishes are also being provided by ELS. BYOB is needed for any alcohol as Summer Fun does not provide alcohol. We will be providing soft drinks and bottled water. In addition to our meal, as tradition calls for, we will enjoy a few games. Guests can participate in two ways: you can either play the games, or cheer for your team. If fun and laughter is what you need, please be there. You truly will not regret it. The admission is free this year and being sponsored by ELS. Residents are required to provide a side dish for admission. You must have a ticket to enter, as we need a head count for food. Tickets can be obtained at Saturday Coffee. Gator Races are also continuing, on July 14th and 28th at 6:30 in the main hall. On July 17th We will be holding an Ice Cream Social and Free Bingo event. Ice Cream will be provided by Daddy Dee’s. Bingo with prizes will be free. If you win you will get to select from a multitude of prizes that include gift cards as well as other nice gifts. Admission is $3 per person (to cover the cost of the ice cream) with tickets available at Saturday Coffee on July 3rd. There will be a Potluck Social on July 25th. All residents are encouraged to attend. Sign up for the dish you will provide will start on July 10th at Saturday Coffee. We have nice Bocci Courts and Horseshoe Pits in our park and are holding tournaments at each of them on July 31st. (You can enter both.) Admission is $5 per person. Prizes for winners will be $100, $50, and $25 for each tournament. Sign up will be at Saturday Coffee beginning July 17th.
August begins with Movie Night in the clubhouse on August 8th. We are going back in time to an “Indoor Drive in Movie” setting. Rather than drive in, we are having guests bring lawn chairs, blankets, air mattresses, whatever you want to sit in or lay on to the clubhouse main hall. This will be a first time for us, but there will be a refreshment break where guests can “let’s go out to the lobby” just like the drive-ins used to be. Beverages, snacks, and popcorn will be provided. Admission is $5 per person and includes the snack pack. BYOB is required for alcohol. Tickets will go on sale July 24that Saturday Coffee. Gator Races continue August 11th and 25th at 6:30 in the main hall. On August 14ththere will be a Pool Party, weather permitting. Admission is $5 per person and prizes will be provided. Food and beverages will be available, however BYOB is required for alcohol. NO GLASS CONTAINERS OF ANY KIND WILL BE ALLOWED! We will be singing, dancing, and playing games if you choose to participate. Tickets will be on sale starting July 31st at Saturday Coffee. Tournaments will be available again for Shuffleboard and Corn Hole Tournaments on August 21st. For $5 per person, you can enter each tournament with the chance to win $100, $50, or $25. Tickets will be available to enter at Saturday Coffee on August 7th. Our last event for August will be a Potluck dinner in the main hall. All residents are encouraged to attend. All events sell 50/50 tickets for an opportunity for you to walk away with cash. Please participate and enjoy the fruits of their labors. Let’s make the memories of Summer 2021 positive and happy!

Summer Fun presented a fantastic concert by Neil Zirconia, a Neil Diamond impersonator. The clubhouse was packed, the energy was high and the sound… a beautiful noise. We were treated to an absolutely fantastic concert by “Neil Zirconia” (the faux diamond) and his wife Lori. With an audience signing to every song, “Neil” performed some of the best Neil Diamond songs ever. The interaction between “Neil” and Lori made the performance even more enjoyable. Neil also shared stories of the history of Neil Diamond’s life as he sang each song. By intermission I already had people coming up asking that we have them back again. Perhaps for a “September Morn”?

Summer Fun had the perfect combination of fun and food for an Ice Cream Social and a chance to play free Card Bingo. This bingo is different from the standard Bingo in that it is played with playing cards. You win, you pick a prize! So simple, so easy, and lots of fun. We gathered to socialize and enjoy a chance to get a few free prizes. Summer Fun promotes getting together and enjoying your neighbors and friends. It’s never a dull moment. Thank you, Sheryl Webster, for a great job calling Bingo!
This was our year to really celebrate freedom. Our country is so blessed to have all the freedoms it has. We are so blessed to finally have freedom from the year plus of Covid restrictions that are now allowing us the freedom to be social (with caution) again.
As always, Summer Fun celebrates the 4th of July with a big clubhouse party. We enjoy a delicious meal, this year provided by ELS and Summer Fun, with the sides and desserts provided by our residents. Of course, we can’t forget the games… “Crazy” best describes the fun we have with either playing the games or cheering for our teammates as we strive to win the games. It’s all in fun and meant to give us the chance to meet new people, have fun, and laugh ‘til it hurts. Our games were all focused on defeating Covid and enjoying our freedom again. It’s and annual event you should never miss.

Have you ever played Bocci Ball? Adjacent to the Sandtrap is a Bocci court. Summer Fun held a Bocci Tournament to get us outdoors and enjoying the fresh air. Then came the sun and humidity…. But the tournament entrees played on. We may have sweat off 10 pounds each, but they game goes on! Our tournament winners were as follows: $100 first place, Jack Martin and John Dwyer; $50 second place, 2nd place $50- John Spada and Steve Antonelli; and 3rd place $25, Kristy Kim and John Donahue.Bocci Anyone?

Summer Fun hosted the first of many to come, Let’s Get Dippy parties. With 9 entries to taste test. The choices were amazing! Competitors prepared enough dip for 40 people and entered their creation for a chance to win $$$ prizes.
Our first place $100 winner was a Cannoli Dip by Sue Spada, second place was $50 Dora Dissmeyer with a Shrimp and Artichoke Dip, and our third place $25 winner was a Cheese Dip by Diane Koester. Excellent dips leaving us all wanting to do this again!!!If
As another summer season comes to an end, so does Lake Fairways Summer Fun. We’ve had a blast, laughed until we hurt, and came back to life after the Covid 19 scare. Our community is strong. Sitting home doing nothing is not what we’re about. It’s been a great summer. Tons of thank you’ s to all the Summer Fun Volunteers for all their hard work to make our season successful!
August kept us on our toes with the Cornhole Tournament. With ten teams competing, we had excellent champions as follows: 1st John Donahue & Kristy Kim, 2nd Dave Gielow & Ron Meissner and 3rd Karen and Rawson Beals.
We had another Potluck dinner and Free Card Bingo. With over $500 prizes, everyone enjoyed themselves with the Bingo. The food at the Potluck was perfect and the opportunity to socialize made for a wonderful day.
There’s nothing better than a good old Chili cookoff and Western Roundup for our Labor Day fun. With 20 entries in the chili cookoff we had more than enough chili to feed us all. Our surprise judges were 4 members of the North Ft. Myers Fire Department. Who better to help us with some “hot” chili? After the chili judging, our winners were announced: 1st Bobbie Gaertig, 2nd Betty Michaleson and 3rdPat Silvers. If you didn’t find a chili you liked, you aren’t a chili person. Once we cooled down from all the food and drink the games began. Our first game was a 4- person relay… galloping around the clubhouse on horses! We tried our hand at roping steer too! Nearly everyone there tried panning for gold. Our Firefighters won that one, hands down. We finished with a Cornhole competition. But the best part of the day was watching everyone laugh and enjoy life again. We may be getting older, but nothing’s going to stop us from having fun!
Our second Movie Night had us laughing at the comedy “Just Getting Started” as we all enjoyed a fun atmosphere simulating a drive- in movie in the clubhouse. Only thing missing were the cars. Lawn chairs snacks and drinks made for another fun event.
With Gator Races ending too, we will have to wait until next issue to find out who the big winner is. Thank you everyone from participating in our events. Season may end, but Summer Fun never gets old!
Our Summer Fun season has been a busy one so far.
We’ve done everything from a Neil Zirconia concert to Gator Races.
If this is your first summer season here, you will quickly see that we do not rest in the summer.
In May we had a great concert with some pretty fancy encore dancing by some audience ladies at the Neil Zirconia concert. Lots of great music and fun!
Our music continued with the bi-weekly karaoke provided by the Karaoke King, Don Webster!
When he’s not singing on a Tuesday you will find our Gator Races going on. Those crazy gators love to get the crowd going with their antics and racing.
Potluck weekends alternate with Food Cookoffs to keep our weekends busy too.
For potluck just bring a dish, BYOB, and get a ticket to enjoy a nice luncheon in the clubhouse with friends and neighbors.
If testing your cooking skills is more your style you can get a enter your dish for a chance to win a cash prize. Don’t want to cook, then get a $5.00 ticket to be a judge and enjoy tasting all the dishes.
May’s competition was Appetizers. First place went to Deborah Vrabel for her Swiss Dip $100, second place was Karen Bealls Chive Cheeseballs $50, and Third place was Louise Paparella’s Corn Chowder $25. If you weren’t there you missed some amazing dishes. June 26th was the Dessert competition. Winners will be announced next issue.
Next issue we will share some photos from our Salty Sam’s Pirate Cruise! As an adult only pirate cruise, you know we all had fun!
Our 4th of July party is here soon. Bring your side dish, BYBO, ticket and cameras. Guarantees to make you laugh, our volunteers have a great time planned for all of you. Hope you know your music and movies!!!!
Our second dance of the season will be July 16th. Vickie Harbert with be providing the entertainment. Be ready for good tunes, and dancing ‘til you drop! The last summer dance will be August 20th.
Come kick up you heels and wear down your shoes dancing.
All our tournaments will be taking place in the next two months. Try out for one of these tournaments: Horseshoes, Shuffleboard, Bocce, or Cornhole. They will all have cash prizes.
We will also be having our Free Card Bingo and Ice Cream Social in August.
