LAKE FAIRWAYS GOLF ASSOCIATION
March 16, 2021
Board Members present: Freda Bennett, Al Cristello, Bill Fleckenstein, George Files, Al Keefer, Cindy and Vince Asaro and Missy and John Young. Absent, Lynne Festa
Present from ELS: Jerry Jaromin, Bill Chapman
Present from Davey: Jim Eggers
Freda called the meeting to order at 3:27 P.M.
Freda commented that Greg Mullins was in attendance as he will be the nominee for Vice President at the General Meeting on Friday, March 19, 2021.
Maintenance Report – Jim indicated that his primary concern right now is irrigation. He was asked about a sink hole on #4 which he said he did not know about. Sand Trap on #13 to the left is washed out – Jim said they are working on it. Jim was asked about putting the xonrate on greens, when and where. Jim said that the chemical will be put on all the greens. He feels #2 is really starting to come around and this will work for all the greens. Asked about the line that is running from#12 to #13. Jim said that the line is actually coming all the way from #10 so it is taking a long time. This is a hydraulic line which is important to getting the water from one spot to another. Jim was asked about the dry tee boxes. He said they are hand watering them and on some of them the rye has already checked out so transition is not good. Asked about the dead tree behind #16. Jim said that has to go through Jeff Belle. Bill Chapman said he will give info to Jeff again. It was indicated that this should be high priority as it could be a bad situation if someone gets hurt from a falling branch. Freda asked Jim who will be overseeing everying when he has surgery and will be out 6 to 8 weeks. Jim said it will be his boss, Steve Bureau. It was asked if ELS, Davey etc sit down and discuss what is needed. Jim and Bill Chapman both said yes. Jim said that 99.99% of our problems is irrigation. Probably a lot of this will be put off until 2022, always and uphill battle. There is no way they can do anything until they have the manpower and money. It was suggested that the overgrowth on the fence on #8 should be taken care of. Jim said that Bob is working on that. Jim said that the sandy area by the green on #12 will be sodded
It was asked about a ranger for the late afternoon as it seems there are non-members going out to play. Jerry said he is well aware of the situation and has some ideas which he will discuss with the pro.
It was asked of Bill Chapman if he has any say over anything by himself. He said yes but on certain items such as tree removals he has to go through Jeff Belle. Was asked if there is anyone above Jeff that the Board could go to if they are not getting answers and the answer was no.
Jim apologized that the traps did not get raked for the Interclub but had another emergency. Jim said he is hoping to hire someone very soon, a very good prospect in the wings.
Secretary’s Report – waived as all members receive a copy of the report.
Treasurer’s Report – Ending balance as of 3/12/21 was $10,908.65. This does not include the amount for the trophies and also a small amount to be added.
Membership Report – 128 members
Tournament Report – Freda thanked Al for all his work, overall a very good job. Al thanked Freda for all her work, round of applause, group effort. Freda indicated that because of having to do the Club Championship and Interclub differently this year, have found out some things that we do not need to be doing anymore, such as registration table. Al indicated that the next tournament is the April Fool’s which will be posted shortly. It was stated that the Man and Woman at Large did a great job with the beverages and the gift certificates for the Sand Trap were will received.
Rules Chairman Report – Al Keefer said all went well.
Ladies 18 Hole League – No Report
Ladies 9 Hole League – Roni indicated that everything is going well and they have about 12 people including 3 men.
Mens 18 Hole League – Al Keefer indicated that the annual dinner and meeting is at end of month on the 31st and that is their last event.
Man and Woman at Large – The Asaro's said everything went well and that Missy and John Young will be joining them next year.
Pro Shop Report – Jerry said nothing to report
Al Cristello indicated that they have bought a brick for Alan Stinson to be installed on
April 1st .
Freda said that our General Meeting is Friday at 6:00 P.M. and she has gotten approval from Jeff Belle to have 100 people allowed with masks and social distancing per CDC guidelines. This will be the election of officers and the Awards.
It was noted that we were lucky to be able to play the Club championship and the Interclub and some new faces in the groups because of the pandemic. Lake Fairways was able to keep the Interclub trophy with all of that.
John Westfere made the new holders for the Club champions parking spaces and are really nice.
It was asked if we could have watercoolers back on the course. Bill Chapman said that he does not know of any course in the area that are allowing them as yet. People just need to know to bring their own water.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:15 P.M.
Respectfully submitted by Dede Martin (substituting for Lynne Festa)

Lake Fairways volunteers have worked hard to beautify the teebox gardens this season. The olf course adds to the beauty of Lake Fairways, and the gardens can be enjoyed by all residents.
The garden project is led by women golf volunteers, but we have had much help from the men, as well. Many thanks to all of those workers.
We appreciate the funding we have had from ELS and from Davies Golf Course Management; without their support this project would not be possible. We also thank LF Women’s Club, and LF Golf Association for their donations.
Many thanks, Laura Broad & Pat Hutz
